Did you know that Camp Nefesh was founded by a teenager? This teenager who grew up learning about Jewish values and the concept of tikkun olam (improving the world) was passionate about immigrant and refugee rights as well as youth empowerment. After volunteering at a similar summer camp in Seattle through Mitzvah Corps, a social justice trip at the culmination of her 10th grade Confirmation experience at Congregation B’nai Israel, this teen brought the idea to Sacramento.  With the support of Congregation B’nai Israel’s Rabbi and Director of Education, she made Camp Nefesh a reality. We want to keep Camp Nefesh teen-run and led in order to inspire other teenagers to take action for what they believe in as well.
