Our Mission Statement

Camp Nefesh provides a fun, free summer day camp experience for refugee children and helps them and their families transition to life in the Sacramento region. Planned and led by youth, Camp Nefesh gives campers, counselors, and community members opportunities to learn and grow.

our vision

A world where refugees are welcomed and cultures connect in a positive way.

our story

Inspired by the International Rescue Committee's program in Seattle, Washington, Camp Nefesh was founded by a teenager at Congregation B’nai Israel in 2018 to give the Summer Camp experience to Refugee kids in Sacramento. Camp Nefesh is a 501(c)(3) that works to provide a safe, fun space for refugee children to learn, play, grow, and meet new friends.

According to the UNHCR (UN Refugee Agency), "Refugees are people fleeing conflict or persecution. They are defined and protected in international law, and must not be expelled or returned to situations where their life and freedom are at risk."

With such poor representation in the news, immigrants and refugees have come across many challenges in our society. Camp Nefesh works to put immigrants and refugees in a different light. Camp Nefesh advocates for immigrant and refugee rights, and continues to push for equality.

Camp Nefesh is a nonprofit and relies on volunteers from the community to keep it running.
