Congregation B'nai Israel is a vibrant community in the heart of Sacramento, California where people of diverse backgrounds pursue their Jewish journeys. They are an inclusive congregation committed to experiencing the joy and beauty of Jewish life.

"Love your neighbor as yourself" (Lev. 19:18) is a fundamental cornerstone of Congregation B'nai Israel.  In 2016, their Board of Directors unanimously passed a resolution to declare Congregation B'nai Israel a Sanctuary Synagogue.

The mission of the IRC is to help people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster, including the climate crisis to survive, recover, and gain control over their future.

The International Rescue Committee provides opportunities for refugees, asylees, victims of human trafficking, survivors of torture, and other immigrants to thrive in America. Each year, thousands of people, forced to flee violence and persecution, are welcomed by the people of the United States into the safety and freedom of America. The IRC works with government bodies, civil society actors, and local volunteers to help them translate their past experiences into assets that are valuable to their new communities. In Sacramento and other offices across the country, the IRC helps them to rebuild their lives.

Their programs are designed to ensure that refugees thrive in  America--whether ensuring their  children are enrolled in school, or as adults they’re becoming self-reliant through employment or starting businesses, or their family is receiving the acute medical care they need to recover from trauma or illness. The IRC helps refugees if they’re in need to rebuild your life and regain control of your future in your new home community. The programs included refugee resettlement, economic empowerment, immigration, new roots, and anti-human trafficking.
